| "Twigs and Logs" |
 |
As a boy whenever I did something wrong, I knew a spanking was on its way. Normally a twig was used but to hear me describe this instrument of rear-end destruction it was more like a large menacing log. Funny, I think back to those days and laugh at my failure to see what was swinging my way.
By our very nature, we make little things into big things and often ignore the most important things. We are quick to see the mistakes of others we can call twigs. These little twigs give us all the starter wood we need to burn the character of others. We burn them in the flames of our self-righteousness.
The Bible warns us to stop trying to remove the little twigs and mistakes in the lives of others until we remove the logs of mistakes from our own lives. The truth is that we would never get to the point of judging others if we actually worked to clean up our own lives.
This day focus on our own shortcomings. It will accomplish two major things. First, it will create within us a humble heart. Secondly, a humble heart will be more likely to help others instead of using them for stepping stones. Say this in your heart today, “I will not look for twigs in the lives of others but instead work on the logs of mistakes in my life.” Tim
